Wandering through Peat Bogs…

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT | BUSINESS MODELLING | NATURAL RESOURCES

Peat harvesting is a specialized segment of the resource sector, involving the extraction and processing of partially decayed organic matter from bogs and wetlands. Used primarily in horticulture, energy production, and environmental remediation, the industry requires careful consideration of ecological impact, transportation logistics, and regional climate conditions. In Canada, peat resources are abundant but regulated, with expansion into new jurisdictions requiring thorough planning and stakeholder engagement.

The team at Polar Coordinates developed a comprehensive business plan for Peat Resources, a TSX-listed company exploring operational expansion into Newfoundland and Labrador. The engagement included a full industry analysis — covering market demand, regulatory frameworks, and regional infrastructure — alongside a detailed operational plan tailored to the realities of peat extraction and distribution. We also built a robust financial model that accounted for capital requirements, production costs, and revenue projections, helping the company assess feasibility and prepare for investor engagement.

On a personal note, I remember wandering through peat bogs as a child while my mother collected peat for our strawberry garden. Little did I know I’d one day be writing a 100-page business plan for a publicly traded company with the goal of doing this on an industrial scale.

This project reflects the team’s ability to synthesize industry context, financial rigor, and operational design into a cohesive strategy — and to adapt across sectors with both analytical precision and personal curiosity.
